Steve Watkins

Steve is an award-winning travel photographer and has shot images in 65 countries. He has written and photographed several BBC books, including the international bestselling 'Unforgettable Things To Do Before You Die'. His work has been widely published in magazines, newspapers and other books, and also featured in several exhibitions, including one at the Barbican, in London, on Aboriginal artists.

'I have long had a love of nature and the great outdoors, inspired by growing up with a large wood at the end of our back garden and family holidays that took us to many wild places around the UK. My passion for travel was sparked by a nine-month long mountain biking trip from New York to Patagonia, which I undertook with three university friends in 1991. I shot 70 rolls of film on the trip and thought that was excessive! Some of those photographs appeared in my first magazine articles. Being out in nature brings a feeling of contentment and calm to my soul, and I endeavour to capture this connection in my images. Whether I am photographing people or landscapes, I constantly seek out tiny details and moments, whether that is a shaft of magical light or the fleeting movement of a hand.

For the Masters of Vision Exhibition I have chosen images, from both the UK and abroad, which mean the most to me personally and hopefully convey some of the feeling I had when I was there.
