Mark Gould is a professional portrait photographer based in the Vale of Belvoir where he runs The Vale Studio, a specialist children’s photography studio. Masters of Vision is a rare opportunity to see Mark’s landscape photography exhibited "Portrait photography and landscape photography are complete opposites. In a studio the photographer creates the light and poses his subject (ok, perhaps I don’t pose 2 year olds!). In landscape photography the photographer must carefully select the location and wait for the light. For me, the practice of landscape and portrait photography together heighten my awareness of these differences and are fundamental in shaping my approach to landscape photography; the use of dramatic light in the photography of extraordinary landscapes.
The locations I choose to photograph are often ones that have been photographed by many other photographers before me. I’m greatly inspired by these other photographers work regardless of whether they are well known or someone I have never heard of from a photographic community website. I am always amazed at how different these locations can look in all of the photographs that are made of them.
For the Masters of Vision Exhibition I have selected photographs I have made from as far away as the USA and as near as my own back garden".
