Damien Demolder

damien demolderDamien Demolder is the editor of the world’s best selling weekly photographic magazine, Amateur Photographer, and he has been inspiring the UK’s photo-community for over twelve years. An incisive and exploratory artist in his own right, his personal work strives to encompass the sensory responses of a moment to transport the viewer to that time at that place.

“We live our lives as a movie, with eyes that constantly stream information to the brain and ears that catch the audio. The performance never stops and even when we are still ourselves the world continues moving; people walking, clouds shifting and branches blowing. Only photography can make it stop, and when its still we can look and see for the first time. The trick, of course, is to press pause on the world at the right moment - the moment all the moving, shifting elements coincide to sum-up the mood, the action and the essence of the scene. It’s a life’s work to understand those moods, and another to learn how to record them. Thank God it’s a job that’s never finished.”

The images selected for the Masters of Vision exhibition were chosen for their ability to elicit an instant emotional response. And that, Damien says, is what landscape photography is all about.
