Charlie Waite

Charlie Waite is undoubtedly one of the worlds greatest and most respected landscape photographers. He is the prolific author of many books on landscape photography and has lectured all over the world. Charlie has mounted solo exhibitions in London, Tokyo, New York and Melbourne and his images feature in private and corporate collections throughout the world.

Born in 1949, Charlie Waite worked in television and theatre for the first ten years of his professional life. He has published 27 books and had has mounted many international solo exhibitions. Charlie is passionate about introducing photography to others and through his company, Light and Land, the leading photographic tour company in Europe, he has introduced and inspired countless photographers to follow their own paths in the glorious pursuit of landscape photography.

For Masters of Vision, Charlie has chosen to exhibit some of his favourite images from the past 25 years. During the Masters of Vision exhibition, Charlie will be giving talks at Southwell Minster Cathedral about his life as a landscape photographer and seminars aimed at helping you to improve your own photography.

"I do not believe that a good photograph can be made without recognising that the landscape will always be more important than either you or the photograph you plan to make of it. Of course it has to be helped and supported by all the techniques of photography, but, when taking a photograph I know to be good, the sensation I always have is a modest one. It is an inner "ah", the knowledge that something is right. When this understanding is there, something strange happens to me. The heartbeat slows down, the whole metabolism seems to come down to the rate of the landscape itself, and the mind, almost as if coated with an emulsion itself, starts to soak up the meaning of the place".
